Transport Hub, Pune
View of the Proposal
A multi modal transport hub at the center of Pune city was proposed as the final year architectural thesis. The project expanse was around 6 hectares and housed all existing and proposed modes of transport along with some commercial development and Office spaces to raise fund for the project. It also under took the waterfront development on the opposite side of the project site with many facilities for the poor and homeless and creating opportunities for street vendors and unemployed people.
Site Analysis
The site lies in the core area of Pune city. Pune being a rapidly developing city of India, all the transport hubs in and around are required to be developed for a fluent traffic catering to the needs of compounding population every year. The site was not just one plot but a collective group of Government plot holdings along with a couple of small private plots. The idea behind the proposal was to demonstrate a model as to how we can deal with transport issues in congested areas by layering different modes of transport.
Site Study
The entire area was studied in depth with respect to landuse, ground coverage, the approach roads, surrounding topography, water bodies etc. Daily mapping of vehicles, pedestrians was done to understand the pattern of usage of space.
